Join us in Sydney on Tuesday, 3 September as we welcome Mary Eberstadt in Sydney in conversation with Peter Kurti, Director of the Culture, Prosperity & Civil Society program at the CIS, to discuss her book Adam and Eve after the Pill Revisited, and her compelling analysis of the condition of contemporary Western society.
Celebrated author, Mary Eberstadt, continues her ground-breaking examination of the sexual revolution in her latest book, Adam and Eve after the Pill Revisited in which she examines closely the transformations brought about by the revolution in three spheres: society, politics and Christianity.
Eberstadt argues that Western society is paying a heavy price for the stigmatisation of traditional morality in terms of fractured homes, feral children and social isolates. She also traces the dissolution of the home and the family to signature developments in Western politics, especially the increase in acrimony, polarisation, identity politics and – in the United States – street violence.
As former CIS Acton Lecturer, George Weigel, has said of Adam and Eve after the Pill Revisited, “Anyone who cares about the human future should read, mark, inwardly digest – and then act upon – Mary Eberstadt’s summons to a nobler conception of our nature and destiny.”
Mary Eberstadt is the Panula Chair in Christian Culture at the Catholic Information Center in Washington, D.C., and a Senior Research Fellow at the Faith & Reason Institute. She is an American writer known for her essays and books exploring the impact of the sexual revolution on society. Her works span anthropology, philosophy, and theology, addressing Western civilization’s cultural and philosophical challenges. Eberstadt’s writings have been translated into numerous languages and adapted for stage productions.
Peter Kurti is director of the Culture, Prosperity & Civil Society program at CIS and is also Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Law and Business at the University of Notre Dame Australia.
