Britain moves Left, but how far?

Join us on Thursday, 19 September as we welcome Eamonn Butler at Centre for Independent for a conversation on the recent political shift in Britain following the Labour Party’s victory and its implications for the economy. This event will be moderated by CIS Executive Director, Tom Switzer.

After 14 years in power, the Conservatives were recently defeated in a massive landslide. But what does Labour’s big victory mean for Britain and its allies — beyond a repudiation of the ruling Tories. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has a chance to revive Britain’s sclerotic economy and maintain its place in the world. Meanwhile, the pressure is on the Conservatives to rethink what they stand for after their humiliating defeat.

Eamonn Butler is a British economist and co-founder and director of the Adam Smith Institute in London.

Tom Switzer is the Executive Director at CIS, and formerly hosted Between the Lines on the ABC’s Radio National.
