SYD | The role of nuclear in Australia’s clean energy mix

Join us on Tuesday April 1, in Sydney for a lunchtime discussion on the role nuclear energy can play in the global expansion of clean energy and what Australia can learn from Canada’s experience.

This discussion will feature Tracy Primeau, a board member of Ontario Power Generation and nuclear operator, and Aidan Morrison, Director of Energy Research at CIS.

Canada’s nuclear journey, from phasing out coal in Ontario during the 1980s to revitalising nuclear stations for new industries offers valuable lessons for Australia. The conversation will include a special focus on extending its benefits to remote Indigenous communities.

Tracy Primeau currently serves on the Board of Directors of Ontario Power Generation, and is one of only a few women, and the only Indigenous one, to become a CNSC licensed operator at Bruce Power and the only female Shift Manager to work her way up from the shop floor. Tracy is a proud member of the Nipissing First Nation and currently brings her lived experience to the Women in Nuclear Canada Board, the University of Waterloo Board and advises boards in the uranium mining sector.

Aidan Morrison is Director of Energy Research at the Centre for Independent Studies. Aidan is an accomplished data-scientist, analyst, and entrepreneur. He’s maintained a long-standing interest in energy and defence technologies, including nuclear power and naval propulsion systems.
